Job Summary
Division Manager is responsible for managing the administrative operations of a school, OR a medium to large academic department, OR several small departments within a college, OR a medium to large non-academic department. Typically includes all or most of the following functions: IT, facilities, student services, contracts and grants, budgetary financial management and / or human resources. Manages a professional staff, typically large, and / or comprised of professionals in various fields. Assumes accountability for decisions made by subordinates. Performs long and short term planning for function. Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules.
The Division of Gastroenterology at UCSF Health is a large subspecialty division in the Department of Medicine. Divisional activities include patient care, teaching, and research at the UCSF Parnassus Medical Center as well as the Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, ZSFG, and VAMC affiliated campus sites. The division has a total of 118 personnel, including 30 full time faculty, 26 fellows, 8 administrative support staff, 48 research personnel, and 6 volunteer clinical professors. Teaching includes two ACGME accredited fellowship programs and two non-ACGME fellowship training programs, including Gastroenterology and Advanced Liver Transplantation, as well as Advanced Endoscopy and IBD. Annual expenditures total ~$27M.
The Division Manager (DM) reports to the Division Chief and the Associate Chair for Administration, and is directly responsible for the operations of the division. In partnership with Chief and faculty leadership, the DM is responsible for developing short and long term needs assessments to appropriately support the division’s goals and missions. The DM works closely with the Chief to facilitate effective decision-making processes. The DM plans, organizes, and directs activities to ensure operational effectiveness, including financial management, academic faculty and staff personnel administration, clinical operations, funds flow and wRVU management, research administration, IT services, and space and facilities management. The DM has responsibility for the administrative and financial relationships of the division with the departmental leadership and other UCSF units. The DM is responsible for implementing and carrying out institutional policies & procedures and best practices as they pertain to compliance and internal controls. Department Description
Research in gastrointestinal and liver diseases is active in the UCSF Division of Gastroenterology (GI). The division has a longstanding reputation for excellence in hepatology research and has a growing investigative program in luminal gastroenterology. Faculty in the Division of Gastroenterology contribute to discovery in several areas, ranging from the identification of basic mechanisms of GI disease, to the improvement of outcomes following liver transplantation, to the optimization of GI care in resource-poor settings. The division also provides comprehensive training in GI research through its postdoctoral programs.
