POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE , Institute for Data, Systems, and Society (IDSS) , to conduct original, publishable research in the area of high-school STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) education in the U.S. Research will focus on identifying, assessing, developing, and promulgating best practices for advancing student engagement in and knowledge of STEM subjects. Of particular interest is the identification and assessment of equitable, effective delivery mechanisms of STEM instruction across all socio-economic groups. Will develop expertise in the latest in secondary school education research and cognitive science as it relates to STEM education, viewed broadly. This includes alternative STEM digital learning environments and identifying and vetting STEM best practices that extend beyond in-class instruction to include broader student- and teacher-focused issues. Important for students--student motivation and engagement, student mentoring, and equity and inclusive STEM education; and for teachers--engaging and upskilling teachers with STEM-related professional development. All findings must be evidence-based, with full citations. The expectation will be the publication of at least two refereed research articles and presentations at at least two national professional society meetings. The work will contribute to the collective understanding of the complex interplay between and among the myriad system attributes of a STEM education system.
