To maintain, repair, clean and move furniture and furnishings on all SLCC campuses.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Make deliveries of various items: from campus to campus, to warehouses, and commercial vendors.
Install furniture for offices, classrooms, labs, foyers, auditoriums, and conference rooms.
Setup and teardown furniture, stages, equipment for special events, functions and athletic games.
Reset or correct the time on all the clocks for all campuses (especially for daylight savings changeovers).
Clean and maintain facilities shops, warehouses, campus buildings and snow removal.
Lead and supervise the Utility crew in the Supervisors absence.
Other duties as assigned.
Preferred Qualifications
2 years post secondary education (60 completed credit hours)
5 years of direct, paid, full-time work experience.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent.
3 to 5 years of direct, paid, full-time work experience.
Part-time direct work experience may be substituted for full-time work experience, on a pro-rata basis.
Must have a valid UT Driver License.
Class A CDL (Commercial Drivers License) required.
Must have or be able to obtain forklift certification within six (6) months of start date.
Must have or be able to complete the following required department utility training within one (1) year of start date:
1) Man lifts
2) Snow plows
3) Hazardous Waste
4) Blood / Pathogen
5) Safety requirement
6) OSHA
7) Operate moving trucks
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Read, write, and communicate in English.
Demonstrate effective team work with all Staff, Faculty and Students.
Communicate effectively with the Utility Supervisor to follow written and verbal instructions.
Computer skills, stay current on software upgrades to keep track of work order hours and required trainings.
Complete all assigned work orders effectively by assigned due date.
Pay attention to details while performing work order jobs.
Enter daily time into the Sprocket work order system.
Ability to drive multiple kinds of moving trucks and operate various equipment.
Make deliveries of various items: from campus to campus, to warehouses, and commercial vendors.
Install furniture for offices, classrooms, labs, foyers, auditoriums, and conference rooms.
Irregular work hours may be requested to accommodate special events for athletics, student services, staff, etc.
Setup and teardown furniture, stages, equipment for special events, functions and athletic games.
Reset or correct the time on all the clocks for all campuses (especially for daylight savings changeovers).
Ability to remove snow using; snow plows, shovels, and blowers, to areas, as directed.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, ability, culture, ethnic background, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
Physical demands include:
- Long periods in stationary position
- Ability to move/traverse across campus and travel to various locations
- Operate equipment
- Ascend/descend and work atop ladders
- Position self to reach low, high, and awkward spaces (may include bending & twisting)
- Ability to communicate, converse, and exchange information
- Inspect, estimate, assess spaces and needed repairs or improvements
- Move, transport, carry up to 50 lbs.
- Exposed to outside elements, construction, and cleaning supplies
Non-Essential Responsibilities and Duties
Operate custodial equipment to assist the Custodial Department when needed.
Knowledge of MSDS
