The Department of Communication and Media seeks applicants for the Howard R. Marsh Postdoctoral Research Fellow. This is a term-limited position for the period August 30, 2021 - August 29, 2022, composed of both research and instructional components. This is a 100% effort position during the academic year (8/30/21 - 4/30/22), and 50% effort during the spring/summer half-terms (5/1/22 to 8/29/22). It is expected there will be a combination of research (33.33%) and teaching (66.67%) effort during the academic year, and research only effort (50%) during spring/summer. The position is expected to begin no later than August 30, 2021.
Compensation:
The annual compensation for the position is $ 53,000. In addition, the Fellow is eligible to apply for up to $2,000 per year to fund research and conference travel. This is a benefits-eligible position.

Fall 2021 – Winter 2022
Research Fellow Appointment - The selected candidate is expected to conduct research for a project led by Professor Susan Douglas about the history and evolution of the study of Communication and Media in particular documenting how issues of race, gender, class, and sexuality became salient in media studies. The selected candidate will assist in building an extensive media archive, tracking establishment of new journals in the field, developing a timeline of significant publications, debates, and media tracing the establishment and evolution of the field.
Instructional Appointment - As part of this position, the selected candidate will be expected to teach two courses during both Fall 2021 and Winter 2022 terms. Courses will be assigned in consultation with the Associate Chair of Undergraduate Studies, and formal communication of each teaching appointment will be provided to you at a future date. In the College of LSA, teaching assignments generally require appointments in instructional titles. We expect that each teaching appointment under this Postdoctoral Fellow offer will be made as a LEO Lecturer I, and set at 66.67% effort.
Spring 2022 - Summer 2022
The 50% effort Research Fellow position in spring and summer terms is expected to conduct research on a project led by Professor Susan Douglas.
The Marsh Postdoctoral Research Fellow will have access to department research resources and is encouraged to participate in the intellectual life of the department. Selected candidate is expected to attend course meetings, hold office hours, and handle routine matters related to instruction.
