Who We Are

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences at Texas A&M University researches the physical pr oce sses that influence and determine our climate as well as providing insight into how and why the climate changes. This is an enormous topic and covers spatial scales from atmospheric chemistry, aerosol particles, air pollution, cloud particles, with radii of microns, to large-scale atmospheric waves, with length scales of thousands of kilo met e rs. Topics studied in the department include the physics of convection, climate variability, feedback physics, climate sensitivity, climate extremes, and regional modeling . Variability and predictability of climate on seasonal to millennial timescales, coupled oce a n -atmosphere interaction, large-scale dynamics of the atmosphere and the oce a n s.

 

What We Want

The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be working in the labs of Dr. Yue Zhang (primary) and other collaborators from Texas A&M Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratories, in the areas of atmospheric chemistry. As a Postdoctoral Research Associate, you will be responsible for conducting designated research projects, writing manuscripts, developing research proposals, and helping with graduate student mentoring and group organization. What You Need to Know

Salary: Compensation will be commensurate based on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Travel: A ble to potentially travel domestically for 1-3 weeks each year.

 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Appropriate PhD in environmental sciences and engineering, environmental chemistry, atmospheric sciences, chemistry, atmospheric chemistry, or related field

 

Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others

  • Able to lift/move moderately heavy equipment or stand up continuously for 1-3 hours during experiments

 

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Experience in aerosol-cloud interactions, aerosol chemistry, aerosol phase state, mass spectrometry, and field/laboratory sampling

  • Experience with advanced data analysis tools using statistical methods

  • Prior experience in lab settings conducting experiments and field measurements

  • Previous publications in top tier academic chemistry journals

  • Previous experience working with doctoral and undergraduate students

 

Responsibilities:

  • Conducting Data Analysis: Keep accurate records of experiments and results. Use computers and laboratory or technical equipment to conduct data analysis, statistical analysis, and technical evaluation of research experiments and results.

  • Conducting Research Projects: Design, plan, and coordinate designated research projects through experimental techniques.

  • Research Writing: Prepare figures and write manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication. Develop research proposals.

  • Training and Mentoring: Mentor graduate students. May supervise undergraduate and/graduate students and other laboratory, technical, or field staff involved in research and perform other duties as assigned.
