JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Earth and Mineral Sciences Energy Institute (University Park, PA) is seeking to hire one postdoctoral scholar. Under the direction of Dr. Zuleima Karpyn, the successful candidate will develop experimental and computational workflows for estimating petrophysical properties of sedimentary formations through a combination of pore-to-core scale imaging and multi-modal data integration. The prospective candidate will work with state-of-the-art instruments at the Center for Quantitative Imaging and the Materials Characterization Lab at The Pennsylvania State University and develop or apply machine learning algorithms. The candidate will also supervise and work closely with graduate students and foster collaborations within Penn State as well as outside academic institutions.
Candidates with strong quantitative skills in image data science, programming (MATLAB or Python), pore network modeling, machine learning, and laboratory experience in the area of flow in porous media are highly desired. A PhD in petroleum engineering, geosciences or a closely related field is required by the date of hire.
Applicants should upload (1) a current curriculum vitae, (2) a statement of research interest and experience in the context of desired qualifications, and (3) a list of three references with their application. This position is funded for one year from the date of hire, with possibility of renewal based on funding and satisfactory performance. The expected start date will be on or after May 2021.
