Summary
This will be a tele-work position until further notice.
The internship involves engagement initiatives directed toward AARP members, legislators, and the public. This includes, but is not limited to, public relations, message design, and many written projects including press releases, Op-Eds, weekly columns, website features, legislative testimony letters to the editor and outreach through social media.
Interns will gain valuable experience and work in a team environment. They will also receive first-hand knowledge of how one of America’s largest non-profit organizations, dedicated to enriching the lives of older Americans, develops and conveys its message to almost 38 million members across the nation. Here in Maine, we have over 200,000 AARP members and our work spans the entire state.
Interns will also have the opportunity to participate in advocacy and outreach campaigns, expand their knowledge of communication processes in the field and work with our volunteers. Outreach campaigns work will include coordinating events, staffing the office RSVP line, participating in volunteer workshops and coordinating social media posts.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the AARP Maine Communications Director, the successful intern applicant will:

Requirements
Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; and be considered rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post doctorate students.
AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers. This may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program.
Must have excellent communication, organizational, writing, and computer skills; Internet savvy; ability to work with volunteers and staff. Must be able to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a team, and exercise initiative
