What You Will Do The Advanced Nuclear Technology Group (NEN‐2) conducts research, development, training and operations in the application of passive and active nuclear measurement techniques, as well as radiography. Applications of primary interest to the group include weapons of mass destruction, emergency response programs, intelligence support activities, and international treaty verification. NEN‐2 also conducts nuclear criticality research supporting basic research in nuclear chain‐reacting systems and contributing to arms control and treaty verification, waste assay, safeguards and accountability, and environmental restoration. A key component of the NEN‐2 mission is to teach a wide variety of personnel how to safely handle, detect, characterize, and manage nuclear materials. NEN‐2 staff members conduct classes in criticality safety, nuclear materials handling methods, and nuclear instrumentation. NEN critical thinking approach ‐ improving collaboration and safety culture/questioning attitude. NEN‐2 works closely with NCERC Facility Operations (NCERC‐FO) and Mission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) at the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) to execute unique nuclear critical and subcritical experiments. NEN‐2 likewise works closely with the Nuclear Criticality Safety Division. The successful Post Doctoral candidate will perform the following duties in this position: · Apply the scientific method to R&D projects focused on the mission areas of NEN-2 given above. This may include: o Performing simulations (Monte Carlo and/or Deterministic) to aid in experiment design, validation, and methods development. o Performing data acquisition and analysis with neutron and/or gamma detection systems. o Assist in developing new radiation detectors. o Perform research on methods applied to data acquired from neutron and/or gamma detection systems. o Assisting in critical experiment design and execution. o Becoming a qualified Fissionable Material Handler. o Performing simulations to aid in criticality safety knowledge. · Present R&D results to peers via internal, conference, or journal papers |

What You Need Minimum Job Requirements: Knowledge in one or more of the following technical areas:
Communication
Ability to obtain Q Clearance.
Education/Experience: PhD in Nuclear Engineering or Physics at time of hire with a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 on a 4.0 scale. |
