Advertised Job Summary
The fellow will play a major role in developing an enhanced digital edition of the complete works of Giovanni Piranesi based on a full 29-volume set of his Opere. The fellow will be responsible for determining methods of digital display for historical material that combines images and texts. Tasks, to be completed onsite or remotely, include webpage development at digitalpiranesi.org, staff management, digital and physical exhibit curation, and planning the project’s future growth. Specific tasks include writing scholarly essays on Piranesi’s Views of Rome, translating selected texts, generating custom metadata, correcting OCR text, and promoting the project.
Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Required: Ph.D. in a relevant discipline (Italian, Art History, History of Architecture, Classics, Comparative Literature, European History), experience with digital humanities, and fluency in Italian.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with metadata creation; Familiarity with controlled vocabularies; Research focus on Giovanni Piranesi.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to effectively plan and organize work activities to prioritize task completion according to schedules and goals. Ability to communicate effectively.
