Description:
The Materials Research Center (MRC) at the Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T) is seeking applicants for a non-academic, full time Senior Research Specialist to operate, manage, support and conduct research in the area of analytical electron microscopy of materials, in particular focused ion beam (FIB) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Primary responsibilities will be the operation and training on a Tecnai F20 STEM, Helios Hydra CX FIB and Nanolab 600 FIB. Cross-training on a PrismaE VPSEM and Raith eLine PLUS e-beam lithography system would be a secondary responsibility. This position reports to the Director of the MRC.
Specific duties include:
Operation of a Tecnai F20 STEM and associated accessories and operation of Helios Hydra CX and Helios Nanolab 600 FIB instruments and associated accessories. Provide training and instructions to users for TEM and FIB and to provide routine maintenance and calibration of the TEM and FIBs. Work with student and faculty researchers to develop new electron beam methods of materials characterization. Conduct demonstrations of the TEM and FIB to visiting classes or external groups. Assist in the teaching of lab courses on the electron beam instruments. Give presentations covering the capabilities and novel techniques to campus and professional societies.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree and relevant experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master’s degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science is preferred.
A PhD degree with emphasis in an appropriate area of science is preferred, as well as 3-5 years’ experience in Electron Microscopy. Preference will be given to candidates with experience operating a dual-beam FIB system and STEM instrumentation.
